Why is UX important?

UX is a formula, something that a user maybe doesn’t directly see or understand, but something that every user has an opinion about when they interact with an interface - whether they’re an expert or a novice. Good UX builds brand loyalty and gives users positive experiences to talk about to their peers.

At SBD, we join up the dots between the engineers that work tirelessly on user interfaces day and night, and the end user who lives with the system day-in, day-out, with our in-depth testing and analysis series - Connected Car UX Evaluations, covering 12 vehicles in this series alone.

Latest release - Volkswagen ID.3

Volkswagen ID.3
UX Evaluation

In this latest edition of SBD's Connected Car UX Evaluation series, the UX team evaluate the Volkswagen ID.3.

"While the system bears some similarities to the Golf 8, tested earlier this year, it has interesting new features, such as a head-up display and 'ID.Light' -- a light strip underneath the windscreen that communicates key functionality information to the driver including the vehicle’s charging status, navigation prompts and voice control"

Kia Sorento
UX Evaluation

"The UVO system in the new Sorento demonstrates some attention to detail, but the implementation often leaves much room for improvement. On entering the car and starting the engine, the user is overwhelmed by startup themes, warning tones, flashing graphics, more startup themes and terms and conditions."

"System graphics, colour themes and instrument cluster transitions between modes are more ostentatious than pleasing and the brand font used throughout the system comes at a cost to legibility."
